War and Peace

Convention in 1970 stated that "Through the Lambeth Conferences since 1930 the Anglican Communion has affirmed that "war as a method of settling international disputes is incompatible with the teaching and example of our Lord Jesus Christ'; it is the clear duty of Christians everywhere to repent, to forgive, and to love in the pursuit of peace." Convention adopted resolutions on the Vietnam War in 1967, 1967, 1968, 1971, and 1972. (See also Nuclear Disarmament.)

Welfare Reform

The 1998 Convention opposed participation in programs such as New York City's "Work Experience Program" and insisted that any alternative to welfare must "a) provide remuneration sufficient to lift the recipients above the federal poverty line, b) include the right to collective bargaining over the terms and conditions of employment, and c) include skills-development training and assessment."
