Director of Strategic Programs Announced

Monday, March 6, 2017

The Rt. Rev. Andrew M.L. Dietsche today announced the appointment of the Rev. Nora Smith as the Director of Strategic Programs for the Episcopal Diocese of New York.

In this position Nora will lead the effort to implement the components of the Strategic Plan that were introduced to the Diocese at the 2016 Convention. Her early efforts will be concentrated on working with the Congregations in Strategic Settings as well as those congregations that receive funding via the Convention Budget, including the Hispanic Compensation Grant program, Regional Ministries, the Harlem Initiative and the South Bronx Project.

Nora recently resigned as Rector of St. Barnabas Church in Irvington, where she had served for eight years. Prior to arriving at Irvington, she was the Associate Vicar for the English and Spanish-speaking congregations at the Church of the Intercession in Washington Heights.

Nora will begin her ministry with the Diocese on Monday, March 27th. She will report to the Canon to the Ordinary.

Within the Diocese of New York, Nora has been a member of the Commission on Ministry, the Property Support Committee, the Credit Union Task Force, as well as the Finance Task Force of the Strategic Plan Advisory Committee. She is trained as a conflict mediator, vocational discernment trainer, and Mutual Ministry facilitator. She has been elected three times to represent the Diocese at General Convention.
