Sustainable Development Goal Fund Grants

Eligibility

The Sustainable Development Goal Fund (SDGF) is open to all congregations in good standing, schools, and mission networks within the Episcopal Diocese of New York (EDNY). Projects for which applications are made must be approved by the parish vestry or governing board before submission for consideration. Grants will be awarded for projects that directly address one or more of the SDGs. Effectiveness, accountability and sustainability will be essential criteria which applicants must identify, define and measure. The receiving entity (i.e., the partner outside of the EDNY) should be in communion with the Episcopal/Anglican church and the applying entity (i.e., the partner within the EDNY) must be in good standing within the church. Grant checks cannot be made out to individuals. If the grant is not made through an existing congregation, school or mission network, the applicant must supply the code selection 501c3 for a public charity by either giving a copy of the 990 filed or the IRS determination letter.

Selection criteria for review of applications

  1. The project for which the funds were requested must be a specific one. If the funds are to be used as part of a larger project, the exact function and timing of the funded project must be stated. In these cases, the applicant must be able to answer the question: if you only receive funds from the SDG fund, what will you be able to accomplish?
  2. The submitted budget must correspond to the project described, even if the project is part of a larger one.
  3. The project must create or sustain a relationship between the receiving and granting constituents.
  4. The project must foster independence in the receiving entity or community; projects must create the capacity for financial independence.

The SDG Fund will give priority to projects that foster mutual exchange and partnership between the Episcopal Diocese of New York entity and the global partner. Priority will also be given to global partners with Episcopal and Anglican affiliations. Grants are given to a particular project only once in order to increase the capacity of the partnership, whether new or existing; grants should not create dependency, but rather nurture self-reliance and financial independence. It is our hope that projects funded by the SDG Fund will foster true companionship in mission.
Grant recipients will be required to file a report of program progress at six months and final outcomes at the end of the project and an accounting of how funds were used.

Grant recipients will be required to present their year’s work at the following year’s Mission Fair.
